Sorbet had no dairy in it – just fruits and sugar and water. It is churned in an ice cream maker so it’s scoopable but does not have the creaminess of ice cream. The intense flavor of sorbet makes it a delicious palette cleanser between courses in multi-course meals. Sorbet was probably the first iced dessert developed in Asia and introduced to Middle East and then Italy. Sorbets have a grainier texture than ice creams or gelatos as they have don’t have any dairy in them. Plus, they’re super easy to make at home! Added bonus – it’s the best frozen dessert for those who are lactose intolerant.
Sherbet is just like sorbet but with a little milk in them, though not as much as the milk in ice cream. Sherbets are also always fruit based and lower milk content than ice cream.
